Trump/Musk LOSE In Court Over Social Security; Hegseth Denies Sharing Classified Information

The Josh Lafazan Show on YouTube - Episode 80

Today's top stories in U.S. news, politics, government, and world affairs:

We start with the latest court ruling against Musk’s controversial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which was found to have violated privacy laws by gaining unrestricted access to Social Security records. A federal judge ruled that DOGE was engaging in an unlawful “fishing expedition”, searching for fraud without legal authority, and ordered an immediate halt to the practice. The lawsuit—brought by labor unions, retirees, and Democracy Forward—argues that DOGE’s unchecked access to private data poses serious security risks and is a clear overreach of government power. And this is just the beginning.

DOGE has now been targeted by nearly two dozen lawsuits challenging its role in dismantling federal agencies and overstepping legal boundaries. The courts have already blocked parts of Trump’s second administration from carrying out some of these efforts, but the fight is far from over. Among the major concerns:

But that’s not even the biggest scandal of the week.

In what may be the most reckless breach of national security in recent history, a bombshell report from The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg has revealed that Trump officials leaked detailed war plans in a group text chat. According to Goldberg, he was accidentally included in a Signal chat where Trump’s Secretary of Defense and other high-ranking officials discussed upcoming military strikes in Yemen.

This wasn’t just a casual conversation—it was a full-on discussion of classified war plans, including weapons details, targets, and timing. Goldberg himself says he didn’t think it could be real—until the bombs actually started falling two hours later.

Experts are already arguing that this could be a serious violation of the Espionage Act, which governs how national defense information is handled. There are also massive concerns over federal records laws, since some of the messages in the Signal chat were set to disappear after a week, raising obstruction of justice questions. And let’s not forget: Signal is not allowed on government devices due to security risks—meaning these officials broke government rules to use an app that foreign adversaries could potentially hack.

Yet, instead of accountability, the Trump administration is on full defense mode, denying the allegations despite overwhelming evidence. Officials like Pete Hegseth, John Ratcliffe, and Tulsi Gabbard have all pushed back on the claims, insisting no classified material was shared. But here’s the reality—if this had happened under any other administration, there would be impeachment hearings already. The GOP would be holding emergency committees, just like they did for Benghazi, Clinton’s emails, and Afghanistan. Yet now? Silence.

And speaking of unforced errors, Jasmine Crockett is once again giving Republicans exactly what they want. The Democratic Congresswoman made headlines this week after calling Texas Governor Greg Abbott—who is in a wheelchair—“Governor Hot Wheels.” Abbott may be one of the most controversial and criticized governors in the country, but mocking a physical disability is the lowest form of political discourse.

Instead of apologizing, Crockett doubled down, refusing to walk back her words. But this is just the latest in a series of inflammatory statements from her that are politically harmful to Democrats.

This is the kind of rhetoric that hands Republicans easy attack ads on a silver platter. If Democrats want to win elections, they need to recognize that Twitter applause does not translate to votes.
