RFK Jr., now running the Department of Health and Human Services thanks to Donald Trump, just claimed that the polio vaccine “killed many, many more people than polio ever did.”
That is not just false—it’s the exact opposite of reality. And when lies like this come from someone in charge of America’s health system, millions of lives are at stake.

Polio was once one of the most feared diseases in the world. In the U.S., it paralyzed more than 15,000 children every year before the vaccine. Globally, it killed or disabled millions. Parents lived in terror, hospitals filled with children in iron lungs.
Then came Dr. Jonas Salk’s vaccine in 1955, followed by Albert Sabin’s oral vaccine in the 1960s. By 1979, polio was eradicated in the U.S. Today, thanks to vaccines, polio is gone in over 99% of the world.
According to the World Health Organization:
20 million cases of paralysis prevented since 1988.
1.5 million lives saved.
So RFK Jr.’s claim? Not only false, but an insult to families spared from tragedy by vaccines.
This isn’t one slip-up—it’s his entire brand. RFK Jr. has pushed conspiracy theories for years:
❌ Vaccines cause autism (debunked in countless studies).
❌ COVID-19 vaccines are “bioweapons.”
❌ 5G towers cause cancer.
❌ AIDS research was fraudulent.
❌ Chemicals in water affect reproduction.
Every single one has been rejected by scientists. But RFK Jr. keeps repeating them—because fear fuels his movement and fundraising.
The terrifying part? Donald Trump appointed RFK Jr. to run the Department of Health and Human Services.
Since taking office, RFK Jr. has:
Cut funding for vaccine outreach.
Delayed shipments of vaccines to states.
Ordered staff to scrub the words “safe and effective” from public documents.
Promoted “choice” policies that gut vaccine requirements nationwide.
This isn’t harmless—it’s dismantling the very system that kept Americans safe from measles, polio, and smallpox.
The fallout is already spreading. Florida just announced it will ban all vaccine mandates—not just for COVID, but for measles, mumps, rubella, whooping cough, and even polio.

But under RFK Jr.’s leadership, and with states copying his agenda, these deadly diseases could come roaring back. Millions of children are at risk.
Vaccines are humanity’s greatest public health achievement:

✅ Measles, diphtheria, rubella—all massively reduced.

Undoing that progress would be catastrophic. Imagine telling your kids polio is back, or that their school shut down due to a measles outbreak. That’s the future RFK Jr. is steering us toward.
Why did Trump empower him? Because conspiracy sells. Trump knows distrust of experts keeps his base energized. RFK Jr. has the Kennedy name, but he parrots Trump’s anti-science agenda. Together, they’ve turned health policy into political theater.
Democrats are pushing back—some are openly calling for RFK Jr.’s impeachment. Their case: a health secretary who doesn’t believe in vaccines is unfit to lead. Period.
Impeachment won’t be easy, but the fight itself matters. This isn’t about left vs. right. It’s about whether America will stand with science—or surrender to conspiracy.
